Granada I

Eva Gjaltema / Granada I

onderdeel van de serie 'Illuminations I' 'Illumination I' (2008-2010) 'As an instantaneous mirror of memory, every photograph leaves a motionless trace of what has been, a fixed imprint of something that is no longer what it was before. And as a simple act of remembering, the photograph seems to testify the disappearance and death of people and of the feelings of things and of the places where they belong. An artistic image is a symbol of actual life, but life also contains death. Whatever the image expresses-even destruction and ruin- the artistic image is by definition an embodiment of hope' (A. Tarkovsky) Within the ongoing project 'Ilumination I' I search for images that refer to a personal but in the end universal memory. All places and spaces I photographed were in very diverse countries, but within the diversity I am looking for the common ground of universal memory, a feeling that you carry with you every where you go. 'Illumination I' is photographed with the polaroid sx70 camera
