Kassim Al-Refai (1967)

Kassim Al-Refai (1967) is geboren in Ramtha, Jordanië (± 100 km. ten noorden van de hoofdstad Amman). Hij studeerde aan de Yarmouk universiteit in Irbid en behaalde zijn graad in Schone Kunsten in 1989. In 1994 kreeg hij zijn meestertitel aan dezelfde universiteit.

Sinds die tijd geeft hij les in schilderkunst en ontwikkelt hij methodes om kunst te onderwijzen aan volwassenen en aan kinderen. Vanaf begin 2006 werkt Kassim Al-Refai als Art-Supervisor in Kerak, waar hij verantwoordelijk is voor kunstonderwijs en kunstaktiviteiten in Midden- en Zuid-Jordanië.

Geïspireerd door herinneringen en fantasie laten zijn schilderijen zijn betrokkenheid zien bij de problemen van het leven en het overleven in een semi-abstracte, figuratieve stijl.

Kassim Al-Refai werkt meestal met olieverf op doek en met inkt en bamboe op papier. Sinds 1985 is zijn werk tentoongesteld in vele solo- en groepsexposities in Jordanië en omliggende landen. Het is te vinden in verscheidene musea en galeries in binnen- en buitenland.

In September 2007 won hij de eerste prijs tijdens de expositie 'Art in Progress' georganiseerd door de KVBKB in Damme, België.
