'The Private Moments of the Heroes'

What happens to today's heroes when they step leave the stage? When the camera lights are off and they are out of the public eye?
This can be said to be the main subject of Malou Claire's paintings. A subject that the artist explores by choosing a specific type of contemporary heroes: cyclists.
Depicted out of their usual context, where hierarchy is strong, they are now isolated. The images have a lot in common with photojournalism. They tell the story of the most vulnerable moment of the men who are exposed to a large audience beyond their control. The artist paints them in their most private moments out in the open on show for public. The cyclists can be seen as archetypes for relations between the individual and the collective.
Looking at Malou Claire's portraits instigates processes of recognition, identification and possible empathy.
