Loek Koopmans is jarenlang uitsluitend illustrator geweest. Hij maakte sfeervolle aquareltekeningen voor prentenboeken, tijdschriften, kinderboeken en schoolboeken. Na zijn pensioen ontwikkelde hij zich meer en meer in vrij werk. Kleurrijke olieverfschilderijen waarin de natuur vaak centraal staat. De surrealistische landschappen kwamen tot stand vanuit de herinnering en het gevoel en niet uit directe waarneming. Ook indringende portretten behoorden tot zijn kunstuiting.

Loek overleed op 14 februari 2024 op 80-jarige leeftijd
